Where it came from
Rescue Cat was originally released in the Japanese set Magician's Force in 2003, designed as a support card for Beast-type monsters. It was later localized for Western audiences and featured in Dark Revelation Volume 3, a compilation set released in 2006 that reprinted cards from several earlier expansions to improve availability for players. The card’s design, featuring a small feline figure equipped with a rescue whistle and harness, reflects the whimsical aesthetic of early Yu-Gi-Oh! monster art while serving a highly strategic utility function.
The card is widely recognized for its powerful effect, which allows a player to summon two low-level Beast-type monsters directly from the deck. This ability to instantly generate field presence made it a cornerstone of competitive play, particularly in strategies centered around Synchro and Link summoning. Despite its humble common rarity in the Dark Revelation series, the card has frequently been subject to regulatory scrutiny by game designers, oscillating between being limited and banned across different formats due to its high impact on game balance.
