Provenance

Where it came from

Solemn Authority was introduced as part of the Storm of Ragnarok set, released in early 2011. The card was designed as a thematic support piece for the Nordic archetype, which drew heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and the arrival of the Aesir monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It functions as a counter-trap card, fitting into a tradition of 'Solemn' series cards that prioritize high-cost, high-impact disruption during gameplay.

The card’s artwork reflects the austere and mythical aesthetic characteristic of the Storm of Ragnarok expansion. While the card is a common rarity, it serves as a representative example of the era's focus on archetype-specific spell and trap support. It was generally received by the competitive community as a niche utility card, valued primarily by players building dedicated Nordic-themed decks rather than as a staple in broader, high-level meta competition.
