Provenance

Where it came from

Soul Resurrection was originally introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Pharaonic Guardian set in 2003, before being reprinted in Dark Revelation Volume 2. The card was designed as a thematic trap that mirrors the Egyptian-inspired lore of the franchise, specifically referencing the resurrection of monsters from the graveyard. It emerged during a period when the game's mechanics were becoming increasingly focused on graveyard management and tactical retrieval.

The card features artwork depicting a ritualistic summoning, aligned with the dark, mystical aesthetic established by series creator Kazuki Takahashi. Within the context of the Dark Revelation sets, which served as comprehensive re-release volumes for earlier cards, Soul Resurrection provided players with a reliable, albeit situational, method to bolster their field presence. It was generally received as a functional, mid-tier trap card that rewarded careful timing rather than raw power.
