Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji

Superheavy Samurai Ogre Shutendoji was introduced in the 2015 Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG booster set Clash of Rebellions. The card belongs to the Superheavy Samurai archetype, a deck theme characterized by monsters that function as defensive, heavy-armored warriors while operating under the unique condition that they contain no Spell or Trap cards in the player's graveyard. This specific design leans heavily into Japanese folklore, naming the monster after the legendary oni leader Shuten-dōji to establish its imposing, mythological identity.

The card was designed to provide the archetype with a vital board-clearing effect, allowing players to destroy all Spells and Traps controlled by their opponent upon its Synchro Summon. Its aesthetic reflects the archetype’s signature mechanical-samurai fusion, featuring complex, industrial armor plating. Like many Super Rare cards from the Clash of Rebellions set, it was received as a functional utility piece that solidified the strategic viability of the Superheavy Samurai strategy in the competitive TCG environment of the mid-2010s.
