Where it came from
The Undying Legion was released as part of the Maze of Muertos expansion, a set designed to evoke themes of cyclical resurrection and spectral warfare. As an XYZ-monster, the card utilizes a rank-based summoning mechanic that aligns with the set's broader focus on manipulating graveyard resources to sustain a presence on the field.
The illustration for this card emphasizes a gothic aesthetic, featuring a phalanx of skeletal figures draped in tattered remnants of ceremonial armor. The artist aimed to capture a sense of relentless, encroaching pressure, a design choice intended to mirror the card's defensive capability to regenerate its own ranks when a material is detached.
