The Winged Dragon of Ra - Immortal Phoenix

The Winged Dragon of Ra - Immortal Phoenix was released in 2019 as part of the Duel Power set, a commemorative collection designed to celebrate the history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. This card serves as a dedicated support piece for the original Winged Dragon of Ra, an iconic monster rooted in the series' ancient Egyptian lore. The design aims to provide players with a more versatile and durable version of the classic deity, reflecting the game's shift toward complex, multi-stage monster effects that allow for greater tactical utility during high-level play.

The artwork and mechanics for this card were developed to evoke the mythological cycle of rebirth associated with the phoenix. By introducing this specific effect-monster variant, the design team sought to resolve long-standing limitations inherent in the original card’s high-cost playstyle. Upon its release, it was received as a significant addition for collectors and competitive duelists alike, primarily because it offered a way to bypass the vulnerabilities that typically defined the Ra monster archetype.
