Tribe-Infecting Virus

Tribe-Infecting Virus was first released in the 2002 set Metal Raiders, later appearing in the Structure Deck: Fury from the Deep in 2005. As a high-impact effect monster, it was designed to provide players with a versatile tool for board control, allowing them to discard a card to declare a monster type and destroy all face-up monsters of that type on the field. This ability made it a cornerstone of competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! strategy for years, reflecting the game's shift toward cards that could swing the momentum of a duel through targeted removal.

The card's design and illustration reflect the early aesthetic of the franchise, emphasizing grotesque, organic horror that was common among the initial generations of monsters. Throughout its history in the competitive meta, the card was both celebrated for its strategic utility and ultimately restricted by game officials due to its immense power in clearing opposing boards, eventually being placed on the Forbidden list before being permitted back into play with an errata that balanced its effect.
