Provenance

Where it came from

True Light was released in the 2021 Tin of Ancient Battles, a compilation set designed to reprint high-value cards from the previous year's core booster sets. This specific card originated in the Rise of the Duelist core set, where it was introduced to support the Dark Magician archetype. Its release in the 2021 Tin made the card significantly more accessible to players, reflecting Konami's strategy of refreshing the competitive landscape by reintroducing key support cards with updated rarity treatments.

The card's design serves as a direct homage to the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, depicting an iconic moment involving the Dark Magician and the Pharaoh. Mechanically, it functions as a powerful, albeit risky, trap card that allows players to special summon the Dark Magician from their hand or graveyard while granting it protection. The art style maintains the classic aesthetic of the Duel Monsters era, aimed at evoking nostalgia among long-time fans while providing a functional utility that fits the modern speed of the game.
