Unchained Soul of Anguish

Unchained Soul of Anguish was released in the 2019 expansion set Chaos Impact, a pivotal collection in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game that introduced the Unchained archetype. This archetype is defined by a dark, interconnected playstyle where monsters are destroyed to trigger powerful effects and summon larger creatures, drawing heavy aesthetic and thematic inspiration from Japanese folklore, particularly the concept of vengeful spirits or yurei. The design utilizes a menacing, demonic motif that emphasizes the archetype's core mechanic of turning self-inflicted destruction into strategic gain.

As a Secret Rare card, this Link-Monster stands out for its elaborate foiling process, which features a diagonal cross-hatch pattern characteristic of the rarity in the Western TCG releases. Within the competitive landscape, the card serves as a vital tool for the Unchained deck, allowing players to utilize an opponent's monster as material for a Link Summon. Its design and gameplay utility were well-received by players who appreciated the card's ability to act as both a disruptor and a high-value attacker, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the theme's high-level performance during the Chaos Impact era.
