Vampire Retainer

Vampire Retainer was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2018 set Dark Saviors, a booster pack designed to focus on specific archetypes including the Vampire theme. The card serves as a support monster for the series, designed to facilitate graveyard recursion and search mechanics that define the archetype's strategy. By allowing players to discard a card to special summon it from the graveyard, it embodies the resource-heavy, high-risk playstyle associated with vampire-themed decks.

The 2019 Gold Sarcophagus Tin Mega Pack, which featured this common variant, was created as a reprint set intended to make popular cards from the previous year more accessible to players. The art style maintains the gothic, macabre aesthetic characteristic of the Vampire lineage in the game, emphasizing the card's function as a dedicated servant to more powerful monsters. While the card is a standard mechanical inclusion rather than a competitive centerpiece, its common rarity in the Mega Pack reflects its role as a functional utility piece within the broader set.
