Where it came from
Worm Bait was released as part of a promotional set for the 2009 video game Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 4 on the PlayStation Portable. These promotional cards were included as bundled incentives to encourage players to purchase the game, a common strategy by Konami during the mid-to-late 2000s to bridge the gap between their digital simulations and the physical trading card game.
The card features artwork consistent with the Worm archetype, a series of Reptile-type monsters that debuted in the Duelist Genesis set. Mechanically, the card was designed to support the swarm-style gameplay common to the archetype, allowing players to Special Summon two Worm tokens to the field. Its aesthetic, centered on the alien-like, subterranean designs of the Worm monsters, reflects the broader science-fiction themes introduced in the 5D's era.
