“I have no interest in real girls!”
So claims Okumura, the president of the school’s manga club. He’s your typical otaku, obsessed with a sexy (fictional) 2D manga character known as Lilliel. Then the new school year starts, and a (real!) 3D girl named Lilysa whose passion is cosplay joins the club. Lilysa convinces Okumura to become her photographer–and guess who her favorite manga character is? Not only that, but Lilysa is into modeling the fetishy stuff! The boundaries between 2D and 3D start to blur as this hot-blooded romantic comedy unfolds.

Where it came from
2.5 Dimensional Seduction, known in Japan as 2.5 Jigen no Ririsa, is an anime series adapted from the manga by Yu Hashimoto. Produced by the studio J.C.Staff and released in 2024, the series centers on the subculture of cosplay, exploring the relationship between an otaku protagonist and a high school girl who aspires to model as her favorite fictional characters. The narrative serves as a tribute to the passion and technical dedication required to bridge the gap between two-dimensional illustration and three-dimensional reality.
The production sought to balance the comedic tropes of the school life genre with a sincere depiction of the craftsmanship inherent in cosplay, from costume fabrication to makeup artistry. As a J.C.Staff project, the series utilizes established animation techniques to capture the aesthetic intensity of the source material. Upon its debut, the series drew interest from audiences familiar with the anime industry's focus on fan culture, positioning itself as a contemporary look at the intersection of fandom and self-expression.
