Ever since their father died, Ichirou Kuga has struggled to support his two younger siblings on nothing but a small inheritance and his passion for drawing manga. But it’s becoming harder to keep up with his growing responsibilities and deadlines, especially after his last two assistants quit to follow their dreams.
Just as he’s nearing his breaking point, the beautiful and scarily competent Shiori Goshiki applies to become his new assistant. But there’s something almost otherworldly about Goshiki, and soon Kuga finds his reality turned upside down when she suddenly declares them engaged to marry!

Where it came from
A Galaxy Next Door was produced by Asahi Production and premiered in 2023 as an adaptation of the manga series by Gido Amagakure. The story follows a struggling manga artist who hires a new assistant, only to discover she is a princess from a shooting star clan, leading to a romantic comedy focused on themes of connection and domestic intimacy. The series was designed to reflect the gentle, slice-of-life aesthetic of the original manga, emphasizing soft character designs and a soothing atmosphere intended to contrast with more high-octane anime titles of the same season.
The adaptation was directed by Ryuichi Kimura, who sought to capture the sincere, slightly whimsical tone of Amagakure's work. Reception among viewers was generally warm, with critics noting its consistent animation style and the wholesome nature of its central relationship. As a production, it serves as a representative example of Asahi Production's ongoing focus on character-driven narratives, finding its niche among audiences who prefer character-focused romance over traditional genre tropes.
