After the Rain

After the Rain, known in Japan as Koi wa Ameagari no You ni, was produced by WIT Studio and premiered in early 2018. Adapted from the manga by Jun Mayuzuki, the series explores the nuanced emotional connection between Akira Tachibana, a track star recovering from an injury, and Masami Kondo, the manager of the family restaurant where she works. The narrative focuses on themes of lost dreams, personal growth, and the quiet beauty of everyday life, distinguishing it from traditional romantic tropes.

Under the direction of Ayumu Watanabe, the series is widely noted for its evocative visual language and atmospheric direction, which emphasize the melancholy and hopeful nature of the original story. The animation style utilizes soft lighting and precise character framing to mirror the protagonist's internal shifts as she moves past her grief. It was received warmly by critics for its sensitive handling of its central dynamic and its high production values, solidifying WIT Studio's reputation for atmospheric storytelling.
