Where it came from
A Returner's Magic Should Be Special originated as a popular South Korean web novel written by Usonan, which was subsequently adapted into a highly successful webtoon illustrated by Wookjakga. The story belongs to the regression fantasy subgenre, following the protagonist Desir Herrman as he is sent back in time to his days at a prestigious magic academy, providing him with a second opportunity to prevent a looming global catastrophe. The narrative is noted for its blend of tactical intellect and character-driven progression.
The 2023 television series adaptation was produced by Studio Arvo Animation and licensed for international distribution by Aniplex of America. The animation direction sought to translate Wookjakga’s distinct character designs and the intricate magic systems of the source material into a fluid visual format. Upon its release, the series received attention for its faithful adaptation of the established world-building and its appeal to fans of the original web novel and manhwa.
