Where it came from
The 2016 Ace Attorney anime series was produced by A-1 Pictures to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the original visual novel franchise created by Capcom. The series was designed to adapt the narrative arcs of the first two games, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Justice for All, translating the stylized, high-stakes courtroom drama into an episodic television format for a wider audience.
Directed by Ayumu Watanabe, the production focused on maintaining the iconic character designs and personality-driven pacing that defined the video games. While the animation style was received with mixed reactions by long-term fans who noted the contrast between the show's simplified visual aesthetic and the more detailed in-game sprites, the adaptation succeeded in exposing new viewers to the quirky legal world of Phoenix Wright.
