"Aesop" no Ohanashi yori: Ushi to Kaeru, Yokubatta Inu

Aesop no Ohanashi yori: Ushi to Kaeru, Yokubatta Inu was released in 1970 as part of a series of short educational animated films adapting Aesop's fables for Japanese audiences. Produced during a period when Japanese animation studios were increasingly looking toward moralistic folklore and classic Western literature for children's programming, the film aimed to distill the instructional nature of the original fables into a digestible visual format for young viewers.

The production utilized a minimalist, storybook-inspired aesthetic characteristic of 1970s Japanese short-form animation. The design focused on clear character archetypes to emphasize the central themes of greed and hubris found in 'The Frog and the Ox' and 'The Dog and the Shadow.' While the film was not a major commercial spectacle, it served as a standard entry in the educational shorts market, valued primarily for its role in bringing traditional didactic tales into the medium of television and regional cinema.
