But one day, Ai finds out Machi's secret: the existence of the Aguu, palm-size entities who grant genius talent upon those who hold them. In order to save Machi, who has become a "Seamstress" who makes Aguu, Ai becomes a "Savior." The Saviors are a group of people who have fought the Seamstresses for generations.

Where it came from
Aguu: Genius Dolls, known in Japan as Aguu: Tensai Ningyou, is a television anime series produced by Studio DEEN in 2018. The series is based on a popular Chinese web manhua by artist Ichibi, which explores the dark, supernatural consequences of fame and creative genius. The narrative follows a girl named Ai who discovers a secret society of tailors who create magical dolls capable of bestowing extraordinary talent upon their owners, provided they are willing to pay a heavy price.
The production was a collaboration between Japanese studio DEEN and Chinese creative teams, reflecting a growing trend of cross-border animation projects during the late 2010s. The character designs emphasize a delicate, eerie aesthetic that mirrors the dolls' porcelain nature, shifting between whimsical talent and psychological horror. Upon its release, the series was noted for its unique thematic departure from conventional magical girl or supernatural tropes, though it remained a niche title that appealed primarily to fans of darker suspense-driven animation.
