The story is set at Shiomi Academy, a vast, prestigious academy with a Daitoshokan (literally, "great library") that rivals Japan's national library. As a member of the Library Club, Kyoutarou Kakei goes to Daitoshokan to enjoy reading by himself. He then meets a second-year girl named Tsugumi Shirasaki through the efforts of a so-called "shepherd" who fulfills people's wishes. Eventually, more girls join the club thanks to the "shepherd."

Where it came from
A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd, known in Japan as Toshokan Sensou, was produced by Hoods Entertainment and aired in 2014 as an adaptation of the popular visual novel series developed by August. The production was intended to translate the romantic visual novel experience into a twelve-episode anime format, focusing on the character-driven narrative set within the secluded environment of the Shiomi Academy library.
The character designs were overseen by Kenichi Takase, who aimed to maintain the soft, aesthetic sensibilities associated with the original visual novel's artistic style. Upon its release, the series was received as a standard entry in the light-novel-to-anime pipeline of the mid-2010s, noted primarily by fans of the source material for its visual fidelity to the game's original character illustrations and its distinct slice-of-life pacing.
