Where it came from
Released in 2023, Hitori no Yoru to Akamidori is a promotional animated short created by Studio Suzume for Maruchan's Akai Kitsune and Midori no Tanuki instant noodle lines. The web commercial was designed to target younger demographics, utilizing a nostalgic yet polished aesthetic that leans into the 'iyashikei' or healing genre of anime. By focusing on a solitary, contemplative evening enhanced by the comfort of a warm meal, the campaign sought to position these long-standing convenience store staples as essential companions for modern, independent lifestyles.
The production features the character design and fluid animation style synonymous with Studio Suzume's reputation for high-quality commercial work. The aesthetic choices were deliberate, opting for a soft, atmospheric color palette that contrasts the bustling nature of daily life with the quiet, sensory experience of eating noodles. Upon its digital release, the short was well-received for its artistic integrity, often cited by viewers as a standout example of how traditional advertising can successfully integrate with contemporary anime storytelling techniques to build brand intimacy.
