Where it came from
Akai Yama Aoi Yama Shiroi Yama, which translates to Red Mountain, Blue Mountain, White Mountain, is a notable children's program produced by NHK in the early 1970s. It emerged during a period when the network was expanding its educational and artistic programming for younger audiences, utilizing the distinct aesthetic of Japanese puppet theater and experimental visual storytelling to capture children's imaginations.
The production is recognized for its minimalist artistic direction and thoughtful character design, reflecting the era's focus on blending traditional folklore motifs with modern television production techniques. By prioritizing gentle narrative pacing and stylized, evocative imagery, the program was well-regarded for its unique atmosphere and remains a respected entry within NHK's extensive archive of historical children's media.
