Akatsuki no Yona (Zoku-hen)

Akatsuki no Yona, known internationally as Yona of the Dawn, began serialization in the shoujo magazine Hana to Yume in 2009. Created by mangaka Mizuho Kusanagi, the series was conceived as a high-fantasy epic that subverted traditional tropes by focusing on a sheltered princess forced to endure a harsh exile. Kusanagi aimed to blend political intrigue with character-driven growth, centering the narrative on Yona's transition from a naive royal to a capable leader while accompanied by a group of legendary warriors.

The designation Zoku-hen typically refers to the continued expansion of the manga series as it progressed well beyond its initial arcs. Kusanagi's design work is noted for its intricate costume detailing and the distinct visual identity of the Four Dragons, which balanced classical shoujo aesthetic sensibilities with more grounded, adventure-oriented art styles. Upon its release and subsequent anime adaptation, the series received significant critical praise for its nuanced handling of historical-fantasy world-building and character development, securing its position as a staple of modern shoujo manga.
