Where it came from
Aki no Kanade was produced by J.C.Staff in 2015 as a short film commissioned to highlight the unique cultural heritage of the Aki region in Hiroshima Prefecture. The project was intended to serve as a regional promotional tool, designed to showcase local scenery and traditions to a broader audience while weaving a gentle narrative about personal growth and the preservation of traditional arts.
The film was directed by Yohei Suzuki and features character designs that emphasize a soft, naturalistic aesthetic suitable for the rural setting. By focusing on the life of a taiko drummer, the creative team aimed to blend musical performance with animation to evoke a sense of nostalgic longing. Upon its release, it was well-received as an evocative, character-driven piece that successfully balanced its role as regional tourism media with the artistic standards of J.C.Staff productions.
