Where it came from
Alice or Alice, released in 2018, is a television anime series produced by the studio EMT Squared. Based on the manga series by author and illustrator Himco, the show centers on the lighthearted daily lives of two young sisters, both named Alice, as they navigate their relationships with their older brother. The adaptation emerged during a period when the slice-of-life and iyashikei genres remained prominent within the industry, aiming to provide a gentle and humorous viewing experience focused on familial bonds.
The animation direction by EMT Squared sought to capture the soft, pastel aesthetic of Himco's original manga illustrations. By emphasizing a minimalist and cozy visual style, the series was intended to translate the domestic charm of the source material into a motion format. Upon its release, the show was received as a niche entry in the seasonal anime landscape, noted primarily by fans of character-driven, low-stakes comedy for its unobtrusive and calming atmosphere.
