AMNESIA

Amnesia was produced by studio Brain's Base and released in early 2013 as an adaptation of the visual novel series developed by Idea Factory and Design Factory. The anime was created to capitalize on the popularity of the otome game franchise, which had gained a dedicated following for its mystery-driven narrative and distinctive character designs. The production team aimed to translate the game's branching storylines into a cohesive television format, centering the plot on a protagonist who wakes up with no memory of her identity or the four men competing for her affection.

The character designs for the anime were handled by Maho Yoshikawa, who adapted the original illustrations by Mai Hanamura. The aesthetic is noted for its high-contrast visual style and surreal elements, intended to mirror the game's dreamlike and sometimes disorienting atmosphere. Upon its release, the series received mixed critical reception, with praise directed toward its polished visual presentation and soundtrack, though some viewers found the episodic structure and the central character's reactive nature difficult to reconcile with the complexities of the original visual novel experience.
