Where it came from
Anoyo no Subete wa, Obakegumi! was produced in 2020 by Stella Promotion, an independent animation studio focused on niche experimental projects. Emerging during a period of increased interest in localized and atmospheric supernatural storytelling in Japan, the series was designed to explore folklore themes through a minimalist and stylized aesthetic that emphasizes character interplay over high-budget spectacle.
The series reflects a collaborative effort within the studio to modernize traditional ghost-story tropes for a digital-native audience. By prioritizing distinct, unconventional character designs and a subdued color palette, the creators sought to differentiate the work from mainstream high-octane fantasy series. Upon its release, it was received as a modest, character-driven curiosity that resonated primarily with viewers who appreciate atmospheric world-building and intimate narrative structures.
