Where it came from
Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo was produced by Hal Film Maker and aired in 2009 as a collaborative project intended to blend the magical girl genre with animal-themed transformation elements. The series was developed as part of a multimedia initiative, designed to appeal to younger audiences by centering on three sisters who discover 'Kirumin' compacts that allow them to transform into various animals. The production sought to capture the charm of lighthearted slice-of-life storytelling while incorporating character designs focused on high-energy, whimsical aesthetics.
The series was directed by Soichi Masui, who worked to balance the comedic interactions between the main characters and their animal alter egos. Upon its release, it was recognized as a distinctive entry in the late 2000s anime landscape for its creative use of creature-based character design. While it maintains a niche following today, the series serves as a notable example of the experimental studio work produced by Hal Film Maker during their final years before merging into TYO Animations.
