Where it came from
The Ao no Exorcist Movie Tokubetsu Eizou, or Blue Exorcist Movie Special Footage, was produced in 2012 to generate anticipation for the franchise's first feature-length theatrical outing. Following the success of the 2011 television anime adaptation of Kazue Kato's manga, this special footage served as a promotional bridge, providing fans with a glimpse into the expanded animation quality and narrative stakes of the cinematic project.
The footage was designed to highlight the refined aesthetic developed by A-1 Pictures for the big screen, emphasizing the dynamic character interplay between Rin and Yukio Okumura. As a supplemental piece of media, it was received primarily as a collector's inclusion, often bundled with advance ticket sales or specific Japanese home media releases to bolster engagement among the existing, highly dedicated fanbase.
