Provenance

Where it came from

Ashita Tenki ni Naare, translating to May Tomorrow Be Sunny, originated as a popular manga series by Tetsuya Chiba before being adapted into a fifty-one episode anime television series by NAS in 1984. The narrative centers on Taiyo Mukai, a spirited young golfer whose journey from a delinquent to a professional player captures the essence of the 1980s Japanese sports anime boom. The series was produced during a period when televised sports dramas were instrumental in fostering a nationwide interest in professional golf, emphasizing themes of perseverance and personal growth through sport.

The character designs and animation style reflect the characteristic aesthetic of mid-1980s studio production, prioritizing dynamic action sequences on the golf course to mirror the intensity of the source material. By focusing on the technical and emotional nuances of golf, the series moved away from the more fantastical sports tropes of the era, instead aiming for a grounded, relatable portrayal of competitive play. While it remains a niche classic today, it is highly regarded by enthusiasts for its faithfulness to Chiba's original vision and its role in defining the golf anime subgenre.
