On Earth in the near future, humanity faced imminent destruction from mysterious giant creatures known as "Huge." The entire world unites against the Huge, and successfully develops weaponry known as "CHARM" (Counter Huge Arms) by combining science and magic. CHARM exhibits high rates of synchronization with teenaged girls, and the girls who use CHARM are viewed as heroes called "Lilies." Throughout the world, "Garden" military academies are established to train Lilies to face the Huge and to serve as bases to protect and guide people. This is a story about fighting girls who aim to become Lilies at one such Garden.

Where it came from
Assault Lily BOUQUET was released in 2020 as a television anime adaptation of the Assault Lily multimedia franchise, which centers on the concept of 'CHARM'—powerful weapons used by teenage girls to fight mysterious lifeforms known as Huge. The series was produced by the studio Shaft, a production house widely recognized for its experimental visual style and long-standing creative relationship with director Akiyuki Shinbo. By applying the studio’s signature aesthetic to the franchise’s mix of science fiction, military fantasy, and character-driven drama, the series aimed to expand the narrative depth of the original doll-based toy line.
The production sought to balance high-octane action sequences with the character studies that define the 'girls-with-guns' subgenre of anime. The animation utilized a mix of traditional and digital techniques to bring the complex designs of the futuristic weaponry to life, while the story focused on the interpersonal dynamics of students at the Garden military academies. Upon its release, it served as a significant anchor for the broader franchise, which spans stage plays, light novels, and mobile gaming, further solidifying the intellectual property within the contemporary subculture of multimedia anime projects.
