Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout The Animation

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout The Animation was produced by Liden Films and released in 2023, serving as a direct television adaptation of the 2019 video game developed by Gust. The series follows the journey of Reisalin Stout, a young woman seeking adventure beyond her quiet island home, and explores themes of alchemy, discovery, and personal growth. It was commissioned by Aniplex to capitalize on the significant popularity of the game series, which had previously seen a revitalization through the character design work of illustrator Toridamono.

The animation design sought to faithfully translate Toridamono’s highly detailed and vibrant art style into a moving medium, focusing on the character silhouettes and the pastoral atmosphere of the Kurken Island setting. Upon its release, the series received a measured reception, with praise directed at its visual fidelity to the source material and its faithful recreation of the game's alchemical systems. While fans of the franchise appreciated the opportunity to see Ryza’s narrative expanded, critics noted the challenges of condensing a lengthy role-playing game narrative into a single television season.
