Atashin'chi NEXT

Atashin'chi NEXT is a 2024 original net animation series produced by Shin-Ei Animation, serving as a modern continuation of the long-running Atashin'chi franchise. Based on the manga by Eiko Kera, which debuted in the early 1990s, the series remains rooted in the observational comedy of the Tachibana family's daily life. This iteration adapts the franchise for contemporary digital platforms, maintaining the series' signature focus on the relatable, often mundane, and frequently humorous dynamics of a typical middle-class Japanese household.

The visual design and animation approach are spearheaded by the veteran production team at Shin-Ei Animation, who have stewarded the series since its initial television adaptation in 2002. In designing the NEXT series, the studio aimed to preserve the simplistic, approachable character aesthetic established by Kera while updating the presentation to reflect current streaming standards. The release was received as a nostalgic return for long-time fans of the series, reaffirming its status as a staple of slice-of-life comedy in Japanese popular culture.
