Where it came from
Babanba Banban Vampire is a 2025 television anime series produced by the studio Gaina, based on the manga by Hiromasa Okujima. The series emerged as part of a modern wave of supernatural comedies, focusing on the character Ranmaru, a vampire who hides his identity while working at a public bathhouse. Its production reflects Gaina's focus on character-driven narratives, aiming to translate the stylized, expressive aesthetics of Okujima's original art into a dynamic animated format.
The design of the series centers on the juxtaposition between the mundane, traditional setting of a bathhouse and the surreal, often comedic elements of vampire mythology. By blending elements of slice-of-life storytelling with dark fantasy, the production team intended to capture the manga's unique tonal shifts. Upon its debut, the series garnered attention for its approach to classic horror archetypes through a contemporary, humorous lens, serving as a notable entry in the mid-2020s anime landscape.
