Where it came from
Banshou Shounian, or Ten Thousand Years of Thoughts, was produced by Bilibili and released as an original net animation, serving as a prominent showcase of contemporary Chinese animation's technical capabilities. The series emerged during a period of rapid expansion for Bilibili's internal production arm, which sought to bridge the gap between traditional storytelling and high-fidelity, computer-generated visual sequences intended to resonate with a younger digital-native audience.
The project is characterized by its ambitious aesthetic, which blends intricate character design with elaborate, otherworldly settings. Critics and viewers often highlight the production's focus on fluid motion and atmospheric lighting as a deliberate move away from more static, traditional animation styles, aiming instead for a cinematic experience that reflects global trends in high-budget web-based storytelling.
