Where it came from
Bary-san no Shokoku Manyuuki, released in 2016, is a short-form television anime series centered on the popular mascot character Bary-san, who hails from Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. The series was produced by Kachidoki Studio, a firm widely recognized for its contributions to the 'yuru-chara' (mascot character) animation genre, designed to promote regional tourism and cultural awareness through charming, digestible visual storytelling.
The aesthetic of the series mirrors the simplistic, rounded design of the mascot, emphasizing humor and lighthearted adventures as Bary-san travels to various regions. The animation style adheres to the conventions of flash-based web and broadcast shorts common in Japanese local promotional media, prioritizing character recognition and family-friendly appeal over complex narrative structures. It was received primarily as a promotional vehicle for the Imabari brand, successfully leveraging the mascot's established national popularity to engage local audiences.
