Denied victory, Eiji left the tournament followed by his opponents mocking laughter. Worse still, Eiji walked away no closer to finding his long lost brother, Sho. But now, a mysterious warrior is hunting down the champions of the previous tournament and using their own moves against them - and it looks like that person may be Sho. Who is this powerful new foe and who is his next target?
Eiji and Kayin, his closest friend and greatest rival, struggle to unravel the mystery before they, too, join the ranks of the defeated. The answer lies at the heart of the Organization and its plans for world domination. At last, the ultimate battle between the greatest fighters in the world will be decided. But if Eiji loses, his friends - Ellis - may Die...

Where it came from
Released in 1996, the Battle Arena Toshinden OVA was produced by J.C.Staff as a direct tie-in to the popular 3D weapon-based fighting game of the same name. Emerging during a period when game developers were eager to expand their intellectual properties into anime, the project aimed to provide a narrative framework for the game's distinctive roster of fighters, capitalizing on the franchise's successful launch on the PlayStation console.
The animation design sought to adapt the polygonal aesthetic of the game into a more fluid, hand-drawn traditional format. While the OVA attempted to lean into the dark, cinematic atmosphere of the character backstories, it received a modest reception. Critics often viewed it as a functional piece of promotional media that served more as an accompaniment to the gameplay experience than a standalone narrative achievement.
