Shunta Mogami loves the Battle Spirits game. One day he is transported by a light from a Battle Spirits card to Spirits World, the origin of all Battle Spirits. He meets a girl named Eto, who claims to have summoned him to Spirits World in order to prevent its destruction at the hands of the revived Evil God-King, who once plotted the destruction of Spirits World before being defeated and sealed away. Together with the confident, green-deck-wielding Yoku Albatrosa, who also came from another world, Shunta sets out to find the twelve God-Kings whose power originally sealed the Evil God-King.

Where it came from
Battle Spirits: Double Drive premiered in 2016 as the eighth television anime series in the long-running Battle Spirits franchise, produced by Bandai Namco Pictures. The series was designed to breathe new life into the franchise by introducing a fresh narrative focused on the protagonist Shunta Mogami, who is transported to the world of Spirits to serve as a Chosen Brave. It followed the established format of trading card game adaptations, blending high-stakes card battles with fantasy adventure elements to promote the physical card game mechanics.
The character designs were overseen by the production team to appeal to a younger demographic, emphasizing vibrant colors and distinct aesthetic styles for the various Spirit clans. Much like its predecessors, the series served as a cornerstone of Bandai’s multi-media marketing strategy, leveraging serialized storytelling to showcase new card expansions and mechanical innovations within the game. It was received by the community as a quintessential entry in the franchise, maintaining the signature tone that fans had come to expect from the series' decade-long history.
