Where it came from
Released in 1990, B.B. Burning Blood stands as an experimental OVA produced by Studio Magic Bus. Emerging during the height of the Japanese original video animation boom, the project sought to capitalize on the aesthetic trends of late 80s action anime. It was crafted during a period when studios were frequently testing standalone narratives intended for the burgeoning home video rental market.
The production leans into the gritty, hyper-stylized character designs and kinetic visual language that defined the era's darker science fiction offerings. While the title is largely considered a cult curiosity today, it remains a notable example of the ambitious, smaller-scale storytelling attempted by Magic Bus before they shifted their focus toward more mainstream television projects later in the decade.
