Bernard-jou Iwaku. - Ofuro dokusho

Bernard-jou Iwaku, or 'The Library of Bernard,' is a literary project conceptualized to explore the intersections of solitude and intellectual curation. The Ofuro dokusho volume, released in 2017 as a special edition, was designed to bridge the gap between traditional Japanese bath culture and the quiet intimacy of reading. It emerged from a movement within independent publishing that prioritized sensory experiences, emphasizing the tactile quality of paper and the meditative atmosphere of the bathhouse.

The design of this piece was intended to withstand the humid, contemplative environment of an ofuro. By utilizing specialized, moisture-resistant materials and a compact, ergonomic binding, the creators sought to encourage a ritualistic approach to reading. Upon its release, the volume was noted in niche literary circles for its innovative material choices and its quiet rejection of the digital distractions that dominated the reading landscape at the time, garnering appreciation for its commitment to slow-paced consumption.
