Where it came from
The Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition was produced by Studio 4°C and released in 2022 to commemorate the enduring legacy of Kentaro Miura’s dark fantasy masterpiece. This television edit revitalized the original film trilogy, which was released between 2012 and 2013, by incorporating additional scenes and enhanced animation sequences. The project served as both a tribute to Miura following his passing in 2021 and an opportunity to present the foundational Golden Age narrative with refined pacing suitable for episodic broadcast.
Studio 4°C’s design approach for the Memorial Edition focused on blending traditional 2D animation techniques with 3D CGI to capture the visceral intensity and intricate detail of the original manga. The team aimed to honor the gritty, gothic atmosphere of the source material while smoothing out technical inconsistencies present in the original theatrical cuts. The series was well-received by fans for its inclusion of previously omitted narrative beats and for maintaining the somber, operatic tone that defines the series.
