Betsu Sekai

Betsu Sekai, translated as Another World, emerged during the late twentieth-century wave of experimental Japanese indie manga and avant-garde literary publications. It was conceived as a thematic exploration of parallel realities and psychological displacement, fitting into the era's broader cultural preoccupation with the boundary between mundane life and surrealist interiority.

The work is noted for its sparse, evocative visual style, which prioritizes atmosphere and negative space over conventional narrative structure. Critics of the period often highlighted its departure from mainstream shonen or shojo tropes, praising it as a minimalist exercise in existential storytelling that aimed to provoke quiet reflection rather than provide a linear resolution.
