Based on a game by ELF.
When I woke up from the darkness, I learned that I was the legendary Devil of Darkness that was said to have a power to destroy the universe. The beautiful girls make approaches to me one after another. My shout roars in space. When I pat a villain gently, he is discomposed into molecules... It seemed that I have the power... But... Am I really the Devil?

Where it came from
Beyond was released in 1998 as an original video animation (OVA) produced by Pink Pineapple, a studio that became synonymous with the adult-oriented anime market during the late 1990s. The title emerged during a period of significant growth for the OVA format, which allowed smaller studios to produce niche, genre-specific content directly for the home video market without the restrictions of television broadcast standards.
The production reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of late-90s adult animation, focusing on a dark, supernatural premise that was a hallmark of Pink Pineapple's output at the time. While the studio's works often utilized similar character design motifs and narrative structures common to the era's adult animation, Beyond is noted by enthusiasts of the genre for its atmospheric approach to its darker subject matter, serving as a distinct example of the direct-to-video trends that defined the independent studio landscape of the time.
