Where it came from
Released in 2015 as the first part of a two-film cinematic project, Beyond the Boundary: I'll Be Here - Past Special served as a recap and re-envisioning of the original 2013 television series produced by Kyoto Animation. The film was created to bridge the gap between the events of the series and the subsequent sequel, I'll Be Here - Future, providing a consolidated narrative arc that captures the emotional core of the relationship between Mirai Kuriyama and Akihito Kanbara.
The production maintains the distinct visual identity established by Kyoto Animation, known for its intricate character designs and atmospheric lighting, under the direction of Taichi Ishidate. While it functions as a summary of the series' supernatural conflict and character development, the film was received as a stylistic refinement of the studio's technical prowess, emphasizing the emotional resonance of the story's climax through polished animation sequences and a cohesive re-editing of the series' events.
