Where it came from
Bibliomania is a 2013 short film directed by James Mansell and produced as part of a collaborative project involving the digital media company Six to Start. It was conceived as an experimental piece that blends dark, surrealist storytelling with themes centered on the physical and psychological toll of obsessive book collecting, drawing inspiration from gothic horror traditions.
The film's visual language was meticulously crafted to evoke an atmosphere of isolation and academic decay, emphasizing the claustrophobia of its setting. Upon its release within digital independent circles, it was noted for its distinct stylistic choices and its focus on the intersection of human desire and the permanence of literature, earning a niche reputation among viewers interested in high-concept short-form cinema.
