Bio Hunter

Bio Hunter was released in 1995 as an original video animation, or OVA, produced by the renowned animation studio Madhouse. Emerging during the height of the 1990s Japanese horror and sci-fi boom, the title was crafted to capitalize on the popularity of dark, visceral stories featuring supernatural transformations and body horror, a genre that found a receptive audience in the direct-to-video market of the era.

The production featured character designs by Yuzo Aoki, who aimed to ground the story’s fantastical elements in a gritty, urban aesthetic consistent with the studio's reputation for high-quality, mature animation. Upon its release, the film was noted for its character-driven focus amidst a narrative of biological threats, though it remains a niche entry in Madhouse’s extensive catalog, often discussed as a distinct relic of the mid-90s experimental OVA scene.
