Birdy and Tsutomu are still co-existing in the same body, as Birdy continues her duties as Federation Investigator and celebrity persona, and Tsutomu seeks to balance them with his normal everyday life. When a criminal group connected to the Ryunka incident escape from custody, hiding themselves and their alien identities on Earth, Birdy and Tsutomu are thrown back into action. It seems, however, that there are other forces involved, as well as old faces, which give Birdy time to reflect on the past, and the people that influenced her.

Where it came from
Birdy the Mighty: Decode 02 was produced by A-1 Pictures and released in 2009 as the second season of the reimagined Birdy the Mighty anime series. The project served as a modern adaptation of Masami Yuki's long-running manga, transitioning the titular character—an interstellar investigator inhabiting the body of a high school student—into a sleek, high-octane narrative that leaned heavily into experimental animation techniques.
The series is highly regarded for the direction of Kazuki Akane, who sought to blend intricate character drama with fluid, dynamic action sequences. By prioritizing hand-drawn animation fluidity over cost-cutting shortcuts common in the era, the production team achieved a distinct visual signature that remains a reference point for fans of kinetic, style-forward anime direction.
