In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!

Where it came from
Black Clover began as a shonen manga series created by Yuki Tabata, serializing in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2015 before being adapted into an anime television series by Studio Pierrot in 2017. The narrative follows Asta, a young boy born without magical abilities in a world where magic is everything, as he strives to become the Wizard King. Its production reflects the classic high-energy shonen tradition, focusing on themes of perseverance and the classic rivalry between Asta and his magically gifted companion, Yuno.
Studio Pierrot’s adaptation was characterized by its extensive 170-episode run, a significant commitment that allowed the series to build a dedicated global following. The visual direction aimed to translate Tabata’s fast-paced, action-heavy paneling into an animated format, emphasizing fluid combat sequences and the distinct elemental designs of the various magic squads. While the show encountered early criticism regarding its pacing and Asta's vocal delivery, it is widely regarded for its character development and its ability to modernize tropes associated with the fantasy-adventure genre.
