Where it came from
Blackfox was produced by Studio 3Hz and released in 2019 as an original science fiction anime project. The film centers on Rikka Isurugi, a descendant of a ninja clan who must navigate a futuristic city following the attack on her family. It was conceived as an action-heavy production that blends traditional shinobi themes with cyberpunk aesthetics, reflecting the studio's interest in dynamic animation and character-driven narratives.
Directed by Kazuya Nomura and Keisuke Shinohara, the film was designed to highlight high-octane sequences and stylized fight choreography. The creative team aimed to explore themes of loss and technological advancement within a stylized urban landscape. Upon its release, the film was noted by critics for its ambitious visual style, although it faced modest reception for its condensed narrative pacing typical of standalone original features.
