Where it came from
The Bladedance of Elementalers Specials, produced by Studio KADOKAWA in 2014, were released as supplemental original video animation episodes packaged with the limited edition volumes of the light novel series. These specials served to complement the primary television anime adaptation, which was produced by studio TNK and directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa, by exploring side stories that provided additional depth to the world of Areishia Spirit Academy.
The character designs for the series, which formed the basis for these animated specials, were originally illustrated by Hanpen Sakura for the light novels and adapted for the screen by Maki Fujii. The series was created as a contribution to the popular light novel genre of academy-based fantasy, aiming to balance action-oriented elemental combat with the lighthearted social dynamics typical of the genre at the time of its release.
