Blue Exorcist: Runaway Kuro

Runaway Kuro was released in 2011 as an original video animation accompanying the limited edition release of the first season of the Blue Exorcist anime. Produced by A-1 Pictures and distributed by Aniplex, the episode functions as a side story centered on the character Kuro, Rin Okumura's familiar. It was designed to expand upon the bond between the feline familiar and the main cast, offering viewers a lighter, character-driven narrative distinct from the primary supernatural conflict of the main series.

The creative direction for the episode maintained the aesthetic established by the television series, which adapted Kazue Kato's popular manga series. The story focuses on Kuro's frustration after an argument with Rin, leading to his temporary flight from the monastery. This installment was well-received by fans for its focus on the familiar's perspective and its role in humanizing the supernatural elements of the series, fitting seamlessly into the broader franchise canon as a supplementary piece of lore.
